Reasons to Use the Website Forums

I agree “if it ain't broke don't fix it” but there are very good reasons to use something better as time goes on. I didn't see you walk or ride a bike to the last meeting! :-) We have discussed this at many, many meetings so here is a refresher of why the club has decided unanimously to move this direction:

Improvements:

  • Sections of topics - you can pick and choose the content you wish to look at - Yahoo groups just blasts everything out and you may or may not care about that topic
  • Notification of new messages per topic - you can actively get notified when someone posts to topics you care about and NOT get notified on topics you don't care so much about
  • Threaded communication - in layman's terms: instead of one level of messages like the Yahoo group where you can't follow a conversation or find a topic; the forum has a more structured layout and you can easily participate in a conversation without blasting over and between all the other conversations
  • More of a community feeling with profiles, signatures, and other things that let users customize
    their profile

Just My Opinion

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Jason Miller. I am a 34 year-old physician, father of one, Porsche enthusiast, 2 year KyPCA member, and newly elected KyPCA board representative. Secondly, to all 35 attendees of the “Holiday Hangover” party, thank you. I can honestly say I got my $15 worth of food, drink, and friendship.

Now, to the purpose of this commentary, I am sad to say that over the last few months the KyPCA Club has become a poor excuse for a high school Debate Team or worse the Accounting Club. Let’s all remember the club is a non-profit organization. As such, we do not set out to earn money and build a bankroll. Any money the club makes should be spent on its active membership.

President's Report - March 2011

Things are heating up, especially the weather. I don’t know of anyone who isn’t waiting for warmer weather. And with warmer weather, it’s time to plan drives and get-togethers. Is there something special you would like to do? Please let one of the officers know, so we can look into it.
